Burkina Faso may not be a global tourist hotspot (despite producing a fascinating pop star in Aminata Savadogo), but overlooking the sun-drenched West African savannah lies the most extraordinary village. A circular, earthen complex that is the royal seat of the Kassena people, replete with a royal residence, court and mausoleum.
But perhaps the most arresting aspect of this noble village is its beautifully adorned architecture, featuring stunning, hand drawn illustrations and paintings in the traditional style of the Kassena. Scroll down to see these beautiful buildings unlike any other, artfully captured by travel blogger Rita Willaert on her trip to Tiébélé in 2009.
